He was predeceased by: his parents, Abraham Payne and Magnolia Payne; his son Nathan Payne (Heidi Curths); his wife Verna Watkins; his children, Richard, Jr., Julie and Vernastine; his siblings, Postell Payne, Maggie Swearingum, Estell Payne, Marcella Payne, John Payne and Abraham Payne, Jr.; and his grandson Ferguson Payne.
He is survived by: his children, Jerry Payne and Rebecca Jantzen (Dean); his daughters-in-law, Janice Payne and Connie Payne; and his brother Elmer Payne. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren.
