He was predeceased by: his parents, John Edward and Lola May Hayes (Baker); his sister Patricia Cutlip; and his brother-in-law Jack Cutlip. He is survived by: his former wife Barbara Shrader; his wife Nancy; his children, Sarah Hayes (Paul Goodson), Marion Bonar (Ian Bonar) and John "J. D." Hayes (Lauren Hayes); his granddaughters, Julia and Brooklyn Bonar; his children, Ava, Nick, Evan and Ruby Goodson; his sister Dorothy Cutlip; and his brother-in-law William Cutlip.
Memorials may be made to Fairview Church Preservation Group (Louisa County), Quad City Symphony, or the Putnam Museum.
