He was predeceased by: his parents, George W. Pettigrew and Pauline Pettigrew (Nester); and his brother John. He is survived by: his wife Mary; his children, Timothy Pettigrew, Elizabeth Meeks (Tim) and Nancy Vitug (Jon); his grandchildren, Logan, Gavin, Brayden, Melayna and Taliya Pettigrew; his children, Mackenzie, William Meeks, Kai and Lea Vitug; his siblings, Jean Pettigrew, Richard Pettigrew (Terry) and Robert Pettigrew (Karen); and his sister-in-law Joann Cosgrove. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
