He was predeceased by: his parents, Sherman Phillips and Eva Cox Phillips; his siblings, Robert Phillips (Bonnie), David Phillips (Carol) and Patricia Shannon; his brother-in-law Robert Sommerfield; and his nieces, Sandra Hartman and Linda Sue Selters.
He is survived by: his wife Wanda Lyons; his children, Steven Phillips (Danelle) of Summerville, SC and Danica Wharton (Jason) of Burlington; his grandson Ronan Wharton; his sisters, Retha Botler (Bill) of Morning Sun and Jane Sommerfield of New London; and his brother-in-law Robert Lyons of Burlington. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
