Janet Elaine Kolkman Obituary
Janet Elaine Oberman Kolkman, 84, of Danville, died Saturday, December 5, 2020 at New London Specialty Care. She was born January 29, 1936, in Yarmouth to Don and Irene Dearman Oberman. On July 8, 1962, she married Gary Delbert Kolkman at Harmony Bible Church, Danville. He died May 29, 2017. She and Gary were longtime Danville residents who lived in the home that Gary, his father Delbert Kolkman, and brother Darrel built.
She was a graduate of Danville High School; attended teacher's college; and was a member of Yarmouth Baptist Church where she served as librarian. Mrs. Kolkman taught her first year in Ohio, then taught second grade at Washington Elementary in Burlington, where she became known for her field trips, retiring in 1998. She enjoyed annual family camping trips to the Colorado mountains, country music, reading, cross stitch, time with her grandchildren, and loved the company of her cats after Gary was gone.
Survivors include her sons, Edward of Yarmouth, Iowa and John of Alabama; three grandsons, Alex, Stuart and Nathan; great-granddaughter, Ivy; sister Minnie Ann Frazier of Phoenix; brothers, Ronnie of Kentucky and Jerry of Florida and Colorado; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and step-father Leo Hollingsworth.
The graveside service for Mrs. Kolkman was held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday at Trinity Cemetery, rural Mt. Union with Pastor Jeff Duffy officiating. A memorial has been established for Yarmouth Baptist Church.
