He was predeceased by: his parents, Rex Thomas and Mary Thomas (Mattix); his wife Shirley Van Gorp; his son Roger; and his siblings, Ernie, Dean, Earl and Vera Minenga.

He is survived by: his children, Mike Thomas (Lori) of Dallas Center and Lori Cirks of Waukee; and his grandchildren, Thomas, Dustin Thomas, Clara Cirks and Christian Cirks.

Memorials may be directed to the Dallas Center Grimes Education Foundation or to the Spurgeon Manor Activities Department.
