He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Bonnstetter and Marie Bonnstetter (Ulrich); his siblings, Delores and Ronnie; and his son Keith.
He is survived by: his wife Carol Montag of Cylinder, Iowa; his children, Kent Bonnstetter (Sarah) of Cylinder, Kurt, Sara Bonnstetter of Cylinder and Kim Berhow (Craig) of Belmond, Iowa; his daughter-in-law Marsha Bonnstetter of Davenport, Iowa; and his sister Patricia Lane (Tom Bogart) of Reedville, Virginia. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; one great grandchild.
