He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbur South and Geneva South (Edwards); his wife Marilee South; his parents-in-law, Gilbert Lacey and Esma Lacey; his siblings-in-law, Roger Lacey, David Melena, Gilbert Lacey, Jr., Jean Lacey, Peggy Lacey and Shirlene South; and his nephew Reid South.
He is survived by: his children, Vicki Jo (Mike Morrison) of Massena, Connie Jean (Ted Henkenius) of Omaha, Lee South (Jenny) of Spencer and Cody South of Martinez, California; his grandson Sean South (Michal); his great grandchild Carlee (Luke Masters); his grandchildren, Brian (Ally), Mia, Alison, Erin, Shyla, Evan of Cumberland and Stephanie (Mike Frankele); his great grandchildren, Anna, Blake Maas and Seth Frankele of Sioux City; his grandson Tyler South; his great grandchildren, Olivia, Isabelle and Ava of Cumberland; his granddaughter Tessa (Brian Hendrickson); his great grandchildren, Claire, Aiden and Lydia of Paola; his grandchildren, Haley Morrison, Eric Bergum of Pella, Lacey Morrison of Adel, McCade Morrison of Massena and Taylor (Dan Knoll); his great grandchildren, Edna, Mabel and Betty of Dallas Center; his granddaughter Megan (Jared Kennedy); his great grandchildren, Rachael, Lucy and Elisabeth of Louisville; his granddaughter Amy (Joe Stilwell); his great grandchildren, Kylee Stilwell, Joie Stilwell, Traivyn Stilwell, Kaley Embry, Kaden Embry and Kassidy Embry of Dickinson; his granddaughter Laura (Michael Pfeifer); his great grandchildren, Charlotte and Emilyn of Omaha; his grandson Luke Henkenius (Autumn); his great grandchildren, Alice and Adeline of Arlington, Nebraska; his brother Delmar South (Jo) of Cumberland, Iowa; and his sister-in-law Ruth Melena of Sun City, Arizona. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church in Cumberland, Massena Baptist Church, Cumberland Fire and Rescue or the Cass County Fair Association – Horse Department.
