He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Butler and Zella Butler (Grandy); his wife Beverly Ann Mincey (Ruhde); his daughter Crystal Butler; his father-in-law Herman Ruhde (Bertha); his niece JoAnn Butler; and his uncle Virgil Grandy (Lillian).
He is survived by: his son Mark Butler of Des Moines; his granddaughter Nicole Ott of Creston; his great grandchildren, Kaylee Ott of Creston and Keara Ott of Sharpsburg; his nieces and nephews, Jill Miller, Emily Watson, Aaron Ruhde, Mark Phelps, David Phelps, Elaine Kapek and Mike Butler; and his siblings-in-law, Craig Rudhe (Carol) of Texas and Shirley Phelps of Bayard. He is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews; and other extended family and many cherished friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the Salem Lutheran Church and Dollars for Scholars in Don's name.
