He was predeceased by: his mother Sharon Hunwardsen (Perkins); his grandparents, Gerald, Lucille Perkins, Junior and Betty Hunwardsen; his parents-in-law, Ed and Betty Bottjen; and his brother-in-law Bob Bottjen.

He is survived by: his father Steve Hunwardsen; his uncle Jensen; his wife Kathy Hunwardsen; his daughters, Brittany Hunwardsen (Andrew Volkert) and Ashley Hunwardsen (Seth Schumacher) of Correctionville, IA; his brother Shane Hunwardsen (Amber); his niece Brooke Nitzschke (AJ); his nephew Tyler Hunwardsen; his sisters-in-law, Karen Smith (Bill), Shirlene Wright (Vernon), Barbara Bundy (Michael) and Sandy Bottjen; his uncles, Al Meyer (Wiggs), Doug Thompson and Gary Caskey; and his nephew David Brown. He is also survived by many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, numerous friends and coworkers.
