He is survived by: his children, Sheryl Swalla (Dan) of Coon Rapids, Lisa Kopaska (Terry) of Guthrie Center, Jeff Hartl of Coon Rapids and Chris Hartl (Jessica) of Coon Rapids; his grandchildren, Alex Nixon of Carroll, Hallie Tendall (Michael) of Blue Springs, MO, Chelsie Kopaska (Dustin), Courtney Hodges (Nate), Jentry Hise (Loyd) of Adair, Melanie Brashears (Jared) of Storm Lake, Iowa, Jace Hartl of Lincoln, NE, Lydia Hofbauer, Aubrey Hofbauer of Coon Rapids and Kylee Hartl (Syrus) of Coon Rapids, IA; his siblings, Otto Hartl Hollister (Ursula), Robert Hartl (Janine) of Audubon, Rose Becker (Roger), Helen Yager and Ann Olesen (Randy) of Bayard; and his sister-in-law Mary Lou Hartl of Carroll, IA. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
