He was predeceased by: his parents, William Hiram Matthews and Mary Eldred Matthews (Faris); his wife Pat; and his sisters-in-law, Joan, Insook, Marilyn Matthews and Joanne Schwob.
He is survived by: his children, David Matthews (Rebecca), Elizabeth Ann Matthews and Robert Matthews; his grandchildren, Danielle Buckley, Alex Matthews, Andrew Buckley (Gesell) of Cramerton, N. C., Lindsey Giffrow (Chris), Christopher Buckley of Charlotte, N. C. and Courtney Matthews; his great grandchild Patrick Buckley of Cramerton, N. C.; and his brothers, Bob of Wapello, Gene and Evan.
