He was predeceased by: his parents, Boyd Benjamin Jennings and Olive Lillian Humphrey; his son-in-law Mark Jeffrey McGuiness; and his brother Royal Jennings. He is survived by: his wife Eileen Stockman Jennings; his daughter Kathy Jo Jennings Buxton; his son-in-law Martin Jay Buxton; his granddaughter Rayna Pearl Buxton; his daughter Karen Jean Jennings McGuiness; his granddaughter Olivia Jennings McGuiness; and his son Stephen Malcolm Jennings.

A memorial has been established for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

“Vivan provided a great service to Iowa State University and agriculture in particular. Vivans work with Iowa State University Extension was respected and appreciated. I enjoyed working with Vivan on agricultural projects over the years. He was someone who thought out of the normal box. I am sorry that I am not available to attend the funeral, I am out of town. Jim Jensen”
