He was predeceased by: his mother Marian Whitsel (McKibben); and his former wife Patti K. Whitsel. He is survived by: his wife Mary Beth Carey (Bonnichsen) of Columbus Junction; his children, Christopher Whitsel (Eric Espinoza) of Moorhead, MN, Philip Whitsel (Amanda) of Canton, MI, Rachel Whitsel of Washington, IA and Casey Whitsel; his stepchildren, Joshua Hinkle (Kiley) of Solon, IA and Cally Schlee (Jeremiah) of Winfield, IA; and his brothers, Tim Whitsel (Carol) of Eugene, OR and Benjamin Whitsel (Jeanie) of Ft. Wayne, IN. He is also survived by his family and many friends.
