He was predeceased by: his parents, Wendell Schaeffer and Margaret Schaeffer (Kattenstroth); his wife Arlene Hayes; and his brother Howard Schaeffer. He is survived by: his sons, Brian Schaeffer (Vicki) of Nevada and Mike Schaeffer of Grinnell; and his grandchildren, Molly Mlynarczyk (Greg), Erik Schaeffer and Alyssa Schaeffer.
