She was predeceased by: her parents, John Cary and Wilma Cary; her husband Virgil Smith; her brother Pearl W. Cary of Virginia; and her brothers-in-law, Howard Gillespie and Charles Gillespie.
She is survived by: her sisters, Deloris Jean Gillespie of Red Oak, Phyllis J. Cary of Central Point and Doris M. Karloff; her sisters-in-law, Jeanette Gillespie of Red Oak and Max Smith of St. Joseph; her nieces and nephews, John Robert "Johnny" Cary of Spotsylvania, Linda Gandee of Central Point, Sheryl Gillespie Bissen of Grinnell, Monica Gillespie Fine of Red Oak, Barb Gillespie Beals of Houston, Chad C. Karloff of Yutan and Kim E. Karloff of Los Gatos; her children, Anna Bissen, Amy Bissen, Sheryl Bissen, Scott, Craig and Linda; her great-nephews, Clayton, Ethan of Yutan, Kim Karloff and Larry; and also, William, Michelle, Josh Beals, Barb Beals, Ernie Beals, Chad, Liz, Nicole of Lincoln and Luke Cary Lenhart of Los Gatos. She is also survived by five nieces and two nephews.
