He was predeceased by: his parents, August Thun and Elsie Marie Von Thun (Jahn); and his siblings, Judy, Dale and Ervin.

He is survived by: his wife Joyce Hudson; his children, Barbara Buikema (Allan) of Fulton and Ronald Von Thun (Susan) of Panama Beach, FL; and his brothers, Erich Von Thun of East Moline, Roland Von Thun of Camanche, Stanley Von Thun (Nancy) of Camanche and Phillip Von Thun of Moline. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; 8great grandchildren.
