He was predeceased by: his parents, Burtis Sear and Bernelda Sear (Busk); his wife Joyce LaFoy Chandler; and his daughter Dawn LaRae Sear. He is survived by: his children, Gwen R. Rowan (John) of Cypress and Brandon L. Sear of Houston; and his grandson Trent T. Rowan of Dallas, Texas..

The family of Dan A. Sear, in lieu of flowers, are requesting a memorial be given to the Paul B. Sharar Foundation c/o the Clinton Community College for the Dawn Sear Memorial Nursing Scholarship established in 1984 for their late daughter by her parents for students of the college nursing program.
