He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin H. Tietjens and Viola E. Tietjens (Jackson); his brother David G. Tietjens; and his sons-in-law, Aaron Braaten and John Wright.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara A. Peters; his daughters, Ann M. Tietjens (Juanita) of Normal, IL, Julie L. Larsen (Tim) of Moline, IL, Ronna M. Braaten of Bettendorf, IA and Joleen J. Wright of Charlotte, IA; his grandchildren, Laurel, Annika Braaten, Leah Wright, Sara Wright, Rosie Reinken (Mitch) and John Wright (Stephanie); his great grandchildren, Kayson, Iris and Ivar Jack; and his sisters-in-law, Janet Peters of Clinton and Gayle Tietjens of Santa Clarita, CA..

Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.

“I remember Mr. Tietjens well. He was my Drivers Ed teacher in Thomson. He only had to use the emergency brake on me once. We all learned on a stick shift car. I thought I could get across the intersection before a truck. Guess Mr. Tietjens didn't agree. Very nice man. Very patient. So sorry for your loss.”
