He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Reinerd Dirksen and Adele Dirksen (Heesch); his wife Joan Smith; his sons, Scott Dirksen of Clear Lake and Kevin Dirksen (Dawn) of Mason City; his grandsons, Matthew Dirksen (Kaleigh) and Stefan Dirksen; his great grandchild Finn Dirksen; and his siblings, Raymond Dirksen and Serena Helton. He was also cherished by nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake in Merv's honor.
