She was predeceased by: her parents, Wilbur Nelson and Valene Nelson (Porter); her husband Fritz Weir; her son-in-law Robert Meinders; her sister-in-law Donna Gates Frost; her brother Bob Nelson; her brother-in-law Lowell Mechaelsen; and her nephew Brad Mechaelsen (Ray Lawson).
She is survived by: her daughters, Susan Meinders of Webster City, Kathy Jo Howard (Dave) and Kristi Schmidt (Chris) of Norwalk; her grandchildren, Jaymie Brown (Matthew), Jacob Meinders of Yuma, AZ, Nicole Tobin (Josh) of Swea City, Amy Howard of Dunnell, Rebecca Bates of Estherville, Mikayla, Carter and Cade Schmidt of Norwalk; her great grandchildren, Tyler, Michael, Brayden Tobin of Swea City, Jacob, Maddison, Marcus Lyon of Sherburn, MN, Tatum and Teagan Bates of Estherville; her siblings, Pat Mechaelsen of Webster City and Kenny Nelson (Pat) of Duncombe; and her nieces and nephews, Ben Mechaelsen, Tony Nelson, Nichole Flynn, Chris Nelson, Wade Nelson, Debbie Neal and Bryan Hansen.
Memorials may be made in Karen's honor to First Congregational Church, 1000 Wilson Avenue in Webster City, Iowa or Alzheimer's Association.
