He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Gangestad and Tena Gangestad (Johnson); his siblings, Norman Gangestad, Evelyn Lehman and John Gangestad; and his siblings-in-law, Phil Lehman, Robert Bagley, Steve Minear and Sylvia Minear.

He is survived by: his wife Joan Bjerkestrand; his sons, Clarion, Thomas (Jana), James and Nicholas (Ingrid); his grandchildren, Anna Beltran (Edgar), Brendan Farris, Johna Bromley (Brian), Joseph Gangestad (Kaylyn), Elise Gangestad, Greta Gangestad (Adam Herzog), Max Gangestad (Alaina) and Jack Gangestad; his great grandchildren, Carson, Kaylynn, Macey, Aubrey, Riley, Bentley, Ryder, Layton, Bergen, Ashton and Aurora; his sisters, Thelma Bang (Darwin) and Marilyn Bang (Darrell); and his sisters-in-law, Ella Gangestad, Naomi Bagley, Lorna Hoverstein and Linda Singer (Noel). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
