He was predeceased by: his parents, Cleo Harold Batten and Ofie Marie Batten (Wolfe); his parents-in-law, Otis and Marguerite Wood; his brothers, Robert Batten and Bernard Batten (Verna); and his brothers-in-law, Chris Wood and Tom Crawford.

He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Batten of Clarinda, Iowa; his children, Julie Miller (Larry) of Baxter, Iowa and Michael Batten (Jamie) of Altoona, Iowa; his brother Stephen Batten (Carol) of Clarinda, Iowa; and his siblings-in-law, Barbara Batten of Mulberry, Florida, Miriam Meadows (Jim) of Indianola, Jane Crawford of Adel, Iowa, Steve Wood (Marcia) of Renesselaer and Dan Wood (Brenda) of New Market, Iowa. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
