She was predeceased by: her parents, John Goebel and Martha Goebel (Bernard); her husband Tom Murphy; her siblings, Magnus Goebel (Leona), Odilo Goebel, Linus Goebel (Mildred), Joan Loutsch (Ray), Arlene McDermott (Larry), Vivian Homan (Pete) and Ivan Goebel; her sister-in-law Mary Ann Goebel; and her in-laws, John Murphy, Francis Murphy, Edward Murphy, Rose Mary Van Wyhe, Maureen Soules, Eileen Murphy and Sylvester Murphy.
She is survived by: her children, Julie Venenga (Collin) of Sioux Falls, SD, Daniel Murphy (Dee) of Cherokee, IA, Thomas Murphy (Bonni Wessing) of Blue Springs, MO, Michelle Paltz (Paul) of Cherokee, IA, Colleen Lehmann (Pete) of Los Altos, CA, Tim Murphy (Amy Dongweck) of Cherokee, IA and Sue Ann Johnson (Heath Hagberg) of Cherokee, IA; her grandchildren, Amber and Aaron Hone; her children, Jake of Sioux Falls, SD, Lauren of Sioux Falls, SD and Ross Duerksen (Meg); her grandchildren, Avery and Merrick of Chicago, IL; her children, Hilary Duerksen of Chicago, IL, Keven Paltz, Kayla McDonald (Cody) of Sanborn, IA and Meredith Aguirre (Matt); her grandchildren, Gabe and Emersyn of Cherokee, IA; her children, Levi Murphy (Emma) of Nevada, IA and Kaysie Johnson of Cherokee, IA; her brother Gerald Goebel of Granville, IA; and her in-laws, Leo Murphy, Cheryl Bartz (Jack), Teresa Jeffrey and Mary Fran Redmon. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, November 10th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (709 W Cedar St, Cherokee, IA 51012). A rosary was held on Sunday, November 10th 2024 at 3:00 PM at the same location. A celebration of life was held on Sunday, November 10th 2024 at 4:00 PM at the Brightside Lounge. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, November 11th 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (709 W Cedar St, Cherokee, IA 51012). A burial was held on Monday, November 11th 2024 from 2:45 PM to 3:00 PM at the Mount Calvary Cemetery (1498 520th St, Cherokee, IA 51012). A prayer was held on Monday, November 11th 2024 at 3:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (709 W Cedar St, Cherokee, IA 51012).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be made in Mary's name to be used for projects that were important to her.
