He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hare and Mamie Hare (Davis); and his brothers, Sandy Schmidt and Charles Hare. He is survived by: his wife Alice Wimmer; his children, Bill Hare (Bridgette) of Ames, Iowa, Tammy Mahler (Blaine) of Cherokee, Iowa, Rob Hare (Cat) of Cherokee, Iowa and Scott Hare of Cherokee, Iowa; and his brother Gary Hare (Brenda) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.
