He was predeceased by: his parents, Emery Nelson and Evelyn Nelson (Ehrke); his wife Gloria Nelson; and his sister Julianne Seeley. He is survived by: his sons, Dale Nelson (Michelle) of Onawa, John Nelson of Fargo and Dean Nelson of Fargo; his granddaughter Emily Nelson; and his siblings, Earl Nelson (Carolyn) of Charter Oak and Kathleen Mohr of Charter Oak. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
