He was predeceased by: his parents, William H. Winkelman (Bill) and Ethel Winkelman (Whitnable); his wife Lois; his grandson Jesse Johnson; and his siblings, Valeda Lines, Lucille Carroll and Robert Winkelman.

He is survived by: his children, Kathy Otto (Steve) of Charles City, Sandy Schmadeke (Steve) of Clarksville, IA, Janet Pickar (Paul) of Riceville, IA, Brenda Flugge (Matt Beckman) of New Hampton and Bruce Winkelman (Kay) of Charles City; his grandchildren, Corey Schmadeke, Brian Schmadeke, Luke Pickar, Jared Johnson, Becca Pickar, Samantha Flugge, Jayda Winkelman, Paul Otto, Ashley Gracia, Zach Eckheart, Jacob Beckman and Tyler Beckman; and also Bill. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.
