He was predeceased by: his parents, Vernon Schmidtke and Hazel Schmidtke (Meyers); his wife Judy Fenneman; his daughter-in-law Tammy LaBarge Schmidtke; and his brother Richard Schmidtke.
He is survived by: his sons, Brian Schmidtke (Lisa Hegland) of Charles City and Tony Schmidtke (Kristi) of Atlantic; his grandchildren, Brandon, Bryce, Evan, Keaton and Simon; his sister-in-law Debbie Schmidtke of Charles City; and his cousin Carl Meyer of Mason City.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be given to Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
