He was predeceased by: his parents, R. J. Downey and Joannie Downey (Funk). He is survived by: his children, Justus Michael Daniel, Austin Robert Johnson, Luke Thomas Gordon and Chloe Frances Colleen; his siblings, Kathy Mowhinkle (Terry), Teresa White (Clark), Patricia Vilutis (Duke), Kurt Downey (Deb), Don Downey (Marilynne), John Downey (Cathy) and David Downey (Wendy); and also Colleen. He is also survived by 5 children, 3 children-in-law, and 3 grandsons.

Visitation was held on Saturday, April 5th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Gospel Lighthouse Church (201 Madison St, Floyd, IA 50435). A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 5th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
