She was predeceased by: her parents, Walter Nehls and Louise Nehls (Ripley); her husband Darrel Steele; her daughter Penny Smith; her son-in-law Dave Waters; her great grandchild Alex Ritzert; and her sisters, Phyllis and Margy.
She is survived by: her grandson Raymond; her children, Susan Capps (Rick) of Cedar Falls, Dennis Steele of Fort Madison, Linda Waters of Northwood, John Steele (Tami) of Mesa and Patsy Fencl (Steele) of Charles City; and her great grandchildren, Sarah Jones (Chad), Isaac, Abby, Amanda Hay (Jay), Dawson, John Capps (Kassie), Colton, Myles, Daxton, Michelle Zeglen (Russel), Ben, Kayla, Hailie, Grace, Christina Rice (Phillip), Zoey, Hayden, Michael Waters, Sophia, Peyton, Ellen Wallace (Alex), Dakota, Megan Cluff (Helaman), Raymond Steele (Budoor) and James Bluhm.
Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.
