He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Nielsen and Mary Ione Nielsen (Goodlove); his brother George Nielsen; his son Michael Nielsen; his nephew Allen Nielsen; and his granddaughter Rebecca Nielsen.

He is survived by: his wife Frances Nielsen; and his sons, Steven Nielsen of Lisbon and Dennis Nielsen of Springville, Iowa. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
