He was predeceased by: his parents, Alphonse Ries and Gertrude Ries (Kramer); his parents-in-law, Pete and Katie Kruse; his brothers, Bill Ries (Elsie), Walter Ries (Rita) and Charles Ries; and his brother-in-law Martin Kruse.
He is survived by: his former wife Sandra Kruse; his wife Sandy; his children, Brenda Rowe (Anthony) of Blaine, Glen Ries (Lori) of Edgewood, Troy Ries (Darcy) of Ryan, Tara Ries (Bubba Agan) of Winterset and T. J. Ries (Sara) of Coggon; his siblings, John Ries (Ruth) of Hopkinton, Mary Brown (Ralph) of Edgewood, Joann Kruse of Petersburg, Frank Ries (Cheryl) of Hopkinton, Kathy Becker (Jerry) of Dyersville, Ed Ries (Eileen) of Hopkinton, Janet Thomas of Farley, Merle Ries (Sue) of Bernard and Marge Gaul (Larry) of Strawberry Point; and his siblings-in-law, Gerry Ries of Shellsburg, Deb Weigel (Tiny) of Strawberry Point, Lee Kruse (Pat) of Lancaster and Chris Kruse (Pam) of Earlville. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID-19 concerns and the governor's proclamation, masks are required at the funeral home and church.
