He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Hurt and Hazel Hurt (Miles); his wife Mary "Cay" Hurt; his great grandchild Chloe Catherine Campbell; and his brother Ed Hurt.

He is survived by: his children, Pam Campbell (Mel) of Ryan, Gina Etten (Ricky) of Center Point, Kelly Morrow (Brett) of Central City and Patrick Hurt (Joan) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his pet Brewer; his grandchildren, Chris Campbell (Stacy), Kyla Sattgast (Dave), Eric Campbell (Catie), Jason Etten (Melissa), Angie Buckman (Chris), Nick Etten (Kenzie), Amanda Morrow (Eric Osmundson) and Lee Morrow; and his brother Glen Hurt (Marie). He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Red's memory may be directed to the American Legion Wapsie Post #421 in Central City.
