He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruben Nelson and June Nelson (Hines); and his sister Marilyn Michael (Nelson). He is survived by: his wife Shirley Ann Johanningmeier; his sons, Richard (Darla) and Kevin (Deena); his grandchildren, Adam Nelson (Wendy), Heather Updegraff (Nate), Aaron Nelson (Augusta) and Brandon Nelson; and his great grandchildren, Emerson, Sophia, Madison, Gracie, Maverick, Mia, Miley and Maci.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to King of Kings Lutheran Church or to the Dementia Society of America.
