We bid farewell to Richard Coates of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on March 29, 2025 at the age of 85. Richard touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. In the vast expanse of eternity, may Richard find peace everlasting, cradled in the gentle embrace of the universe. And as we stand on the shores of remembrance, may his legacy inspire us to live each day with purpose, passion, and profound gratitude for the gift of life itself.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Coates and Wilma Coates (Birdsall); his sister Annette; and his former wife Karen. He is survived by: his wife Denise of Cedar Rapids, IA; his children, Lynnette of Cedar Rapids, IA, Paula of Maricopa, Arizona, Dena (Keith) of Bloomington, Indiana and Rich (Rita) of Cedar Rapids, IA; and his sisters, Barb and Belinda (Tom). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild.
Visitation was held on Friday, April 4th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, April 5th 2025 at 9:00 AM. A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, April 5th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the St. Matthew Catholic Church (2310 1st Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402).
