He was predeceased by: his parents, Friel Mathews and Lesteretta Houser Mathews; and his brothers, Ronald and Ralph Eugene. He is survived by: his wife Cathy of Cedar Rapids; his stepchildren, Spencer Mathews (Tracy) of Council Bluffs, Callie Welsh of Urbana, Amy Welsh of Glendale, Arizona and Lisa Welsh of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Atticus and Ainsley Mathews of Council Bluffs; his stepchildren, Avery Moomey of Marion, Amaya, Kylie Doss of Glendale, Arizona and Chase Welsh of Cedar Rapids; his brother Rick (Mary Louise Mathews) of Centerville; his sister-in-law Alice Mathews of Loveland, Colorado; and his former wife Peggy Hoenshel Keele (Mark) of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the Special Olympics in memory of Randy.
