He was predeceased by: his wife Charlene Taylor; his son Joseph Schwerdtfeger; his brother Milton Drenter; and his parents, Frank Drenter and Velma Drenter (Mathias).
He is survived by: his children, Cathy Munson of Cedar Rapids and Richard Schwerdtfeger (Karen) of Des Moines; his grandchildren, Jessica Burke (Munson), Amber Morrison (Sean), Katherine Wythe (David), Joseph Schwerdtfeger (Michele) and David Schwerdtfeger (Jana); his great grandchildren, Maddison, Alyson, Cole, Taylor, Jessica, Piper and Eliza; and his great great grandchild Griffin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
