He was predeceased by: his sisters, Patricia Murphy and Darlene Purintun; his nephew Douglas York; and his siblings-in-law, Denise York, Harry Snyder and Dwight Sandridge.
He is survived by: his wife Gloria York; his children, Bonnie Gerst (Russell) and Mike York (Stacy); his grandchildren, Ashley Springer (Trevor), Zachary Gerst (Katharine), Ethan York (Rachel Daniels), Hank Gerst, Gregory Gerst and Tomina Gerst; his siblings, Karen Murphy (Wayne), Shirley Sandridge, Marjory Snyder and DeWayne York (Janet); and his brother-in-law Dean Purintun. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorials in Gene's memory may be made to the Goodhue Lutheran Church, in Florence.
