He was predeceased by: his parents, John "Jack" McDonnell and Evelyn McDonnell (Huffman); and his father-in-law Bennie W. Grimm. He is survived by: his wife Lynnette McDonnell of Cedar Rapids; his children, Jacob McDonnell of Littleton, Colorado and Jennifer Lyn McDonnell (Tyler) of Lakewood, Colorado; his siblings, Bob McDonnell (Rhonda) of Loveland, Mike McDonnell (Rosanne) of Ft. Collins, Kathy McDonnell of Cedar Rapids, Steve McDonnell (Becky) of Des Moines and Joy Ryan (Gary) of Hiawatha, Iowa; his mother-in-law Donna Grimm of Cedar Rapids; and his siblings-in-law, Bennie L. Grimm of Cedar Rapids and Tammie Grimm of Dubuque, Iowa. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund in Denny's name has been established.
