He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Farmer and Nancy Farmer; his siblings, Linda and Paul; and his sister-in-law Ruth Farmer.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Lee of Cedar Falls; his daughters, Ann Congdon (Matt) of Augusta and Laura Farmer of Marion; his brother Steve Farmer (Kathy) of Mason City; his sisters-in-law, Betty Lee of Dubuque and Shawn Farmer of Des Moines; and his nieces, Lisa Wilfong (Ray) of Urbandale and Karen Sprague (Steve) of San Antonio, Texas..
