He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Hess and Vera Hess (Henley); and his brother Richard Hess (Dorothy). He is survived by: his children, Mark Hess of Phoenix, AZ, Todd Hess (Gema) of Tucson, AZ, Terri Vorland (David) of Cedar Falls and Mary Hess of Cedar Falls; his grandchildren, Ryan (Meghan), Emily (April), Katie (Cory), Erin (James), Jaime, Trey (Sage) and Troy; and his great grandchildren, Landen, Carsten, Skylar, Brynn, Kinslee, Lewis and Corbin.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.
