She was predeceased by: her parents, John Wingert and Elizabeth Wingert (Long); her siblings, Patricia Converse and John Wingert; and her sons, Craig Van Schoyck (Cystic Fibrosis) and Jeffrey Van Schoyck.

She is survived by: her husband Theodore "Ted" A. Abkes of Cedar Falls, IA; her daughter Linda Haan (Al) of Cedar Falls; her daughter-in-law Connie Van Schoyck of Cedar Falls; her stepdaughters, Tracy Abkes (Gary Ramos) of Waukesha, WI and Tammy Jauregui (David) of Pewaukee, WI; her foster daughter Wendy Wolf of Waterloo; her grandchildren, Amanda LeDoux (David) of Cedar Falls, IA, Brett Van Schoyck of Cedar Falls, IA and Matthew Van Schoyck of Cedar Falls, IA; her stepgrandchildren, Amber Neubert of Waukesha, WI, Austin Raub (Chloe) of Maquoketa, IA and Bryant Abkes (Samantha) of Pewaukee, WI; and her great grandchildren, Noah and Maximus LeDoux of Cedar Falls, IA. She is also survived by eight step-great-grandchildren.
