He was predeceased by: his parents, Werner Mueller and Nettie Mueller (Clausen); his wife Kathleen Emma Loseke; and his granddaughter Carrie Jo Hancock. He is survived by: his children, Kim Hancock (James) of Cedar Falls and Kevin Mueller (Diane) of Burlington; his grandchildren, Kristin Burkle (Jesse) of Epworth, Kelli O'Brien (Conor) of Waukee, Kevin Hancock (Amanda) of West Burlington, Jaden of Burlington and Jace Mueller of Des Moines; his sister Donna Gosch of Columbus, NE; and his close friend Eileen Jensen of Cedar Falls. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren.
