He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorothy Eva Carpenter (Mishler) and Everett Carpenter; and his brother Franklin Fritz. He is survived by: his former spouse Herman Fritz; his wife Christine Brinkmann; his daughter Gail Christine Carpenter Baggett (Benjamin) of Corvallis, Oregon; his grandchildren, Johannah Joy and Andrew Alder Baggett; and his sister Carol Carpenter Rasmussen.
