It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bessie Backer of Cedar Falls, Iowa, born in Sioux City, Iowa, who passed away on December 10, 2023, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Melvin C. Knapp and Catherine C. Knapp (Bradshaw); her husband Donald L. Backer; and her children, Harry and Gloria.

She is survived by: her children, Carolyn Mulder (Douglas) of Aplington, Diane Ernster (Dennis) of Brandon, Virginia Reiss (Louis) of Waterloo, Steven (Lisa) of Holland and Scott (Lidia) of Aurora; her daughter-in-law Lisa of Independence; and her brother Carl (Mellie Knapp). She is also survived by 20 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren.
