He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Hemmen and Doreen Hemmen (Wickers); his son Jeff Hemmen; his in-laws, Harley and Thelma Jean Schwerdtfeger; and his sisters-in-law, Deb Hemmen and Linda Byrd (Schwerdtfeger).
He is survived by: his wife Deb Criswell (Schwerdtfeger) of Cedar Falls, IA; his daughter Monica Duckworth (Dale) of Hickory, NC; his stepchildren, Jason Criswell (Kiley) of Waikoloa, HI and Samantha Lewis (Criswell) of Silverton, OR; his granddaughter Taylor Reed (Justin) of Hickory, NC; his stepgrandchildren, Eli Duckworth of Hickory, NC, Keola, Cove, Coast Criswell of Waikoloa, HI, Sawyer and Seeley Lewis of Silverton, OR; his great grandchild Charlotte Grace Reed of Hickory, NC; his brother Kevin Hemmen of Dike, IA; and his brother-in-law Craig Schwerdtfeger (Holly) of Cedar Falls, IA. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
