It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Eugene Phillip Melby of Castana, Iowa, born in Soldier, Iowa, who passed away on December 23, 2023, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Cleo Melby and Marjorie Melby (Karr); his sons, Todd Melby and Phillip Melby; and his siblings, Janet Nelson and Roger Melby.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Melby of Castana, Iowa; his son Stephen Melby of Castana, Iowa; his siblings, Russell Melby (Cindy) of Castana, Iowa and Janice Payne (Terry) of Wooldridge, Missouri; and his siblings-in-law, Dennis McCall (Linda) and Mary Jane Jacobson (Bill) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
