She was predeceased by: her parents, Michael Puetz and Margaret Puetz (Pfab); her grandson Nick Portz; and her siblings, Mary Ann Puetz and Herald Puetz.
She is survived by: her husband Paul Merges of Centralia; her children, Molly Murphy of Cedar Rapids, Brian Merges (Dawn) of Centralia, Lisa Portz (John) of Dubuque and Annie Blitgen (Dan) of Bellevue; her grandchildren, Mitchell (Sarah), Matt, Mallory Murphy, Nicole Merges, Mark Portz, Addyson and Aliyah Blitgen; and her siblings, Irene Stephan (Don) of Dubuque, Dave Puetz (Mary) of Bernard and Carl Puetz (Patty) of Bernard.
An Inez T. Merges memorial fund has been established.
