He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis Thomas and Margaret Thomas; and his siblings, Lewis, Calvin, Pauline, Martha, Julie, Nancy and Barbara.
He is survived by: his spouses, Angela Barker and Rose Marie Thomas of Carroll; his children, Stacey Locke (Margo) of California, Stephanie Thomas of Maryland, Heather Dutra (Troy) of California, Jason Gurney (Julie) of Southriding, VA, Brooke Thomas of Nevada and Walter E. Thomas Jr. of California; his grandchildren, Jordan, Peyton, Mitchell, Olivia and Tanner; his sister Marjorie Keel of Chillicothe, OH; and his mother-in-law Beverly Maule of Lake City. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
