He was predeceased by: his parents, James A. Vanderheiden and Frances L. Vanderheiden (Koon); his wife Annette Barnes; his sister Teresa Renze; and his grandchildren, Christopher Salmons, Brittany Salmons, Liz Tomka and Dani June Vanderheiden.
He is survived by: his caregiver Jim; his children, Teri (Lieutenant Colonel Michael), Rick, Joni (Ed Tomka), Wolf Vander Heiden (Tony Vanderheiden) and Maria (Todd Pankratz); and his brother-in-law Cyril Renze. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
He was also a member of the Flexibles Quartet, performing at countless weddings and funerals, as well as many local nursing homes with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to St. Croix Hospice (40 N. Main St., Denison, 51442).
